Tom Van Puyvelde is an artist and designer, born in 1985 in Temse, Belgium. He began his studies in Visual Arts after completing a degree in Architecture at Sint-Lucas Ghent in 2008. In 2014, he graduated with a Master's in Visual Arts from the School of Arts Ghent, where he studied under the guidance of Jan Debbaut and Vincent Geyskens. Following his graduation, he worked as an assistant at Studio Koen van den Broek. This experience fueled his ambition and shaped his conceptual vision as a painter.
After living and working in Brussels, Lisbon, and Berlin, Van Puyvelde returned to his hometown in 2022. He identifies as a fundamental painter who rejects traditional classifications such as abstraction and figuration. For him, representation is secondary to translation; the endless painterly possibilities inherent in the source material form the core of his practice.
Van Puyvelde has exhibited both nationally and internationally. He held a solo exhibition in France at Chambre Avec Vue, Saignon (2023), followed by a solo exhibition at Common Sense Gallery, Vienna (2024). That same year, he presented his first solo exhibition in Belgium, titled "Evanescence," at Buysse Gallery (Knokke, Belgium), from April 13 to May 19, 2024. This exhibition is pivotal for his career, marking both the opening of the gallery and his debut solo show on Belgian soil.
In addition to his solo exhibitions, Van Puyvelde participated in group exhibitions at Aqualex Knokke (2022) and Plus-One Gallery Antwerp (2024).
