Smooth (2026) exemplifies Armin Boehm’s ability to dissolve the distinction between figure and image. Built through layered oil paint and fabric on canvas, the composition unfolds as an unstable constellation of overlapping physiognomies, where facial features merge into a continuous pictorial structure. Rather than depicting individual identities, the painting examines the fluidity of perception, allowing humour, discomfort and intimacy to coexist within a single painterly field.
