Shift: Abstract Transformations Expanded

26 December 2024 - 2 February 2025

-

 Curated by Louis Buysse

 Location: Buysse Gallery, Zeedijk-Het Zoute 700, 8300 Knokke-Heist

Buysse Gallery is delighted to present Shift: Abstract Transformations Expanded, a continuation of its acclaimed exploration of abstraction's transformative potential. Running from 26 December 2024 to 2 February 2025, this expanded iteration introduces new works and perspectives, deepening the dialogue between abstraction's historical roots and contemporary innovations.

Curated by Louis Buysse, the exhibition extends its narrative with the addition of internationally renowned artist Chiharu Shiota, whose immersive installations and intricate thread works bring an evocative spatial and emotional dimension. Shiota joins a remarkable lineup of artists, including Bram Bogart, Cyrielle Gulacsy, Tom Van Puyvelde, Lieven Deconinck, Emanuel Seitz, Irina Ojovan, Damien Bénéteau, Stien Bekaert, and Tycjan Knut.

At the heart of Shift lies the concept of transformation-both within the medium of abstraction and in the broader context of artistic evolution. The visceral, material-rich works of Bram Bogart anchor the exhibition, embodying abstraction's physicality, while contemporary artists expand these foundations with optical illusions, structural precision, and conceptual depth. Shiota's inclusion introduces a profound dialogue about memory, connection, and the boundaries of space, weaving abstraction into personal and collective narratives.

This expanded exhibition continues Buysse Gallery's commitment to fostering engaging and thought-provoking presentations. Shift: Abstract Transformations Expanded invites visitors to experience the evolving possibilities of abstraction, where color, form, and materiality challenge perceptions and inspire new ways of seeing.
