Three Artists from Berlin: Gregor Hildebrandt, Gerold Miller, and Anselm Reyle
February 8, 2025 - April 6, 2025
Buysse Gallery, Knokke
Buysse Gallery is delighted to announce Constructive Currents: A Dialogue Across Time and Medium, a group exhibition that reimagines the foundational principles of Constructivism—order, materiality, and abstraction—within the context of today’s post-industrial and digital age. Featuring the works of three Berlin-based artists—Gregor Hildebrandt, Gerold Miller and Anselm Reyle—this exhibition offers a thought-provoking exploration of materiality and form in an era defined by rapid technological transformation.
Through the lens of these three visionary artists, Constructive Currents examines how historical frameworks, such as Constructivism, remain relevant in navigating the evolving relationship between analog and digital, past and future, and physical and virtual. Each artist presents a distinct perspective on these themes, making the exhibition both a celebration of Constructivist ideals and a forward-looking investigation into their contemporary implications.
Gregor Hildebrandt transforms analog media such as cassette tapes, vinyl records, and VHS films into layered visual narratives. His works evoke a sense of nostalgia, challenging viewers to reflect on the transient nature of technology while celebrating the enduring power of physical memory.
Anselm Reyle engages with reflective materials like foil, neon, and mirrors, creating works that seduce and challenge the viewer's perception. Reyle's practice bridges early modernist aesthetics with the complexities of a digitalized world, presenting dynamic environments that shift with every gaze.
Gerold Miller explores the boundaries between painting and sculpture with his minimalist, geometric forms crafted from industrial materials like aluminum and lacquer. His works reflect the algorithmic precision of the digital age, inviting viewers to contemplate the structures that underpin our visual and spatial experiences.
Located in the coastal town of Knokke, a site marked by its artistic vibrancy and architectural identity, Buysse Gallery offers a unique setting for this exhibition. Knokke's juxtaposition of natural landscapes and man-made interventions-symbolized by its iconic Atlantic Wall-provides a fitting metaphor for the collision of history and modernity explored in Constructive Currents.
Constructive Currents is more than an exhibition-it is an active dialogue about the persistence of materiality in a digitalized world. By reframing the principles of Constructivism for the 21st century, the exhibition challenges viewers to navigate the fluid boundaries of abstraction, technology, and perception. In doing so, it underscores the enduring relevance of physical materials and their ability to inspire, provoke, and connect across time.
