Following his acclaimed solo exhibition Transience at Art Rotterdam 2025, Belgian artist Tom Van Puyvelde presents Continuum at Delen Private Bank in Waver. This new exhibition builds on Van Puyvelde's ongoing exploration of ephemerality, material presence, and the painterly process, placing these concerns in conversation with Delen Private Bank's longstanding engagement with Belgian art.
Delen Private Bank has always approached art as an essential part of its identity, one that fosters reflection, connection, and continuity. In a similar way, Continuum engages with the passage of time, both within the individual work and the broader arc of an artist's practice. Through a carefully composed selection of paintings, Van Puyvelde invites us to consider how an artwork exists not as a fixed statement, but as part of an ongoing movement of revision, layering, and transformation.
Structured around the tension between figuration and abstraction, Continuum reflects on Van Puyvelde's ability to distill images to their essence. The exhibition's central works probe the potential of figuration, derived from photographic sources yet pushed towards dissolution. Monochromatic Residu Composition pieces built from accumulated layers of excess paint, record the often unseen labour of painting, revealing how creation and erasure exist in tandem. In their quiet presence, these works resonate with Delen's philosophy of care and preservation: they stand as witnesses to the artistic process, capturing what is left behind.
Presented within the considered surroundings of Delen Private Bank, Continuum unfolds as a subtle interplay between past and present, process and permanence. By bringing together Van Puyvelde's work and Delen's engagement with Belgian art, the exhibition underscores the quiet yet persistent movement that shapes both painting and the spaces in which it is experienced.
