the Grand Palais is delighted to present The Soul Trembles, a landmark exhibition dedicated to the poetic and evocative works of Chiharu Shiota. Born in Osaka in 1972 and currently based in Berlin, Shiota is renowned for her monumental installations created from interlacing wool yarn. These immersive works, often enveloping everyday objects, guide visitors on a dreamlike journey through memory, time, and connection. Her creations demand a dual engagement—both physical and emotional—offering profound reflections on universal themes such as life, death, and relationships.
Organized in collaboration with the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, this is the largest exhibition of Shiota’s work ever presented in France, spanning over 1,200 square meters of the Grand Palais. The exhibition features seven large-scale installations alongside sculptures, drawings, photographs, and performance videos, tracing more than twenty years of her career. Curated by Mami Kataoka, Director of the Mori Art Museum, The Soul Trembles offers a rare opportunity to explore Shiota’s unique artistic vision and her ability to create spaces that resonate deeply with the viewer.
