With Laureate (2021), Florian Tomballe revisits the ancient tradition of the crowned figure. The laurel wreath immediately evokes recognition, yet the sculpture avoids portraiture. Through simplification and enlargement, the head becomes an architectural form. The work moves between monument and memory, between an individual presence and an archetypal image.
